Italian Seasoning Recipe

You’re probably having a strange sense of déjà vu right now… since last week I brought you that recipe for the bread dipping oil. This recipe is similar in some of the herbs it contains, but still a very different recipe.
This Italian Seasoning recipe is great because you know exactly what’s in it and it’s easy to make more using the herbs and spices in your pantry. You’ll never be without Italian seasoning when you stumble upon it in a recipe.
Having a jar of this Italian seasoning in your pantry will add flavor to so many recipes. I love it in balsamic marinade (that one is a reader fave!), pizza chicken tenders, and mini turkey meatloaves sheet pan dinner. It’s also a great way to dress up homemade croutons. This roast chicken with Italian Seasonings also looks great! The uses are endless!
What’s in Italian Seasoning?
I’m sure every recipe is slightly different, but here’s what this Italian Seasoning includes:
- dried oregano
- dried basil
- ground marjoram
- dried thyme
- dried rosemary
- dried sage
- dried parsley
You can also opt to add in garlic powder, onion powder, and/or red pepper flakes. It depends on what you like! I like to just do the herbs and then add the other stuff depending on what recipe I’m making, or who I’m serving.
How to store and how long it keeps:
Easy – just store in an airtight container with all your other spices. It will keep for about 1 year, and then you’ll want to freshen it up with new stuff.
- 3 tablespoons dried oregano
- 3 tablespoons dried basil
- 2 tablespoons dried thyme
- 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon ground marjoram (or 2 tablespoons dried)
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley (note)
- 1/2 tablespoon dried sage
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Red pepper flakes
- Combine all ingredients in a jar or another airtight container.
- If desired, you can blend it all together in a blender or a spice grinder for a finer, more uniform seasoning.
