Rolo Turtles

The hardest part of this recipe is unwrapping Rolos.

So you can definitely handle this. That’s also why I saved this until right before Christmas. They are beyond easy to make and taste oh-so-delicious. This isn’t an original idea, I’ve seen it floating around the internet. If you know who came up with it (maybe it is YOU?) or who I can attribute it to, please give me a holler so I can credit it to them.

Let me tell you–these are a crowd-pleaser. Who doesn’t love caramel, chocolate and a little salty crunch? I could eat a million of these suckers.

Rolo Turtles
makes however many you want…or however many Rolos are in the bag

Rolos
Pretzels (I used the waffle type)
Pecans (or M&Ms if you’re not a nut person…but then they aren’t so much turtles…)

1. Preheat oven to 350*F.
2. Unwrap the Rolos. There is no getting around this part.
3. Lay out pretzels on a baking sheet and top each with a Rolo.
4. Cook in 350* oven for approximately 4 minutes or until Rolo is melty.
5. Press in pecan (see note below) while Rolos are still soft.
6. Enjoy!

Note: I toasted my pecans using my slacker-method: the microwave. Every nut tastes better toasted. Skip this step if you’re really busy, but seriously, 45 seconds  in the microwave does the trick.

Verdict: Dangerously addicting.
Husband’s take: I don’t remember his exact words…probably something like, “I could live on these things.”
Changes I would make: Are you crazy? NONE!
Difficulty: Umm…super easy. Super, super easy.

  3. I haven’t made these in a couple years….I definitely need to bring these back into my Christmas rotation. Fabulous photos!

  4. A friend makes pretzel sandwiches like this. I love the thought of tossing out one of the pretzel sides and adding the pecan. These are an ultimate comfort food for sure! Happy Holidays!

  5. I need to make these and then eat a million of them! I don’t think I could resist eating them all, haha! Mmmm. And you make them look even better with your gorgeous photos. :)

  6. My mom introduced me to these this year. They are so addicting!

  7. I love that conversation with you and your hubby, LOL! I have to agree, why change something so yummy and delicious:-) They look so fun to make too! Hugs, Terra

  8. Yum! I love quick and simple desserts to make with the kids! Love the picture witht the Christmas tree in the background, beautiful!

  9. Salty and sweet. Sold. Time to brave the store…again.

  10. Wow…I must make these immediately.

  11. Oh these do look easy and believe it or not, it is NEW TO ME. So as far as I am concerned, YOU are the genius who invented this wonderfulness. I am having a group of teens over tonight for a party (a last minute, decided yesterday at 9:00pm party) so I am more than grateful to have these little delights to put out. I am going to the store now (6:43am my time!) and will pick up rolos. I will try not to eat a handful as I unwrap the little beasts. Please, please have a very fabulous Christmas with your hubby, and little girl. Love, peace and happiness are sent your way. PS…still having oodles of trouble with WWF. What is up?

  12. I meant to make these this year! I’ll have to see if the husband will pick up the ingredients for me today.

  13. Oh my gosh, stop it. YUM!

    Merry Christmas!

  14. These are a favorite in our house – and you are so right, the hardest part is unwrapping the rolos!!

  15. Those definitely look dangerous! They’re small & poppable and you’re absolutely right: who doesn’t love sweet & salty? Ahh, I LOVE rolo’s. I used to get those a lot when I was a kid. I loved that they had caramel bursting in the insides :) Love the last picture you took! Happy Holidays, Rachel!

  16. Yum! I love easy, especially this time of year.

  17. These things rock. They are a little bit too easy to enjoy…as in, once you pop, you can’t stop. But that’s okay they’re worth it. Great gooey pic on the last shot!

  18. Yum! One of my favorites! I know I’ve been eating these for at least 11 years because I had them in college (gah I’m old!).

  19. My kids and I just made these yesterday…. with the intention to SHARE them. Umm. Yeah. So we realized a “regular” sized bag of Rolos is NOT big enough. That’s why Target is selling the BIG bags of Rolos…. so we are heading back to the store today to make more. SO good. Though I learned a lesson NOT to stick these in the fridge {or our case the screened porch} bc they harden… best to let them sit on the counter. Just takes longer to set so more patience needed. BEAUTIFUL pictures Rachel! Merry Christmas!!
