Strawberry watermelon slushie is an easy and refreshing summer spritzer, with a cocktail option.
Recipe Overview
Why you’ll love it: Make your leftover watermelon into a refreshing summer drink!
How long it takes: 5 minutes
Equipment you’ll need: blender
Servings: 1 (but it’s super easy to make more)
Juicy strawberries and watermelon, with a touch of lime and a spritz of sparkling water, blended into an icy refreshing drink is summer perfection. It’s slushy, it’s spritzy, it’s refreshing and it is summer in a glass.
It’s a great tasting drink that is non-alcoholic. Great for those of us who happen to not be drinking alcohol for one reason or another.
Recently I went to a graduation open house with my husband and daughter, and it was a hot, beautiful day. I watched as he drank an ice-cold beer and I drank a bottle of water. Ho-hum! Parties should be required to serve fun drinks for pregnant ladies and other non-drinkers, don’t you think?
This strawberry watermelon spritzer won’t leave you longing for an ice-cold beer or a vodka lemonade. It has plenty of refreshing flavor!
P.S. If you want, add a shot of vodka to your spritzer to make a cocktail. Totally up to you! Or try frosé (a frozen rosé slushie) or a frozen Sangria slushie.
I’ll run through the basics of this beverage recipe but as always, look for the recipe card near the end of the post for complete instructions, measurements, and nutrition information.
What You’ll Need
- Watermelon: This recipe is a great way to use up that extra watermelon you may have. Make sure it’s a seedless watermelon or you’ll have to pick out the seeds.
- Frozen Strawberries: The strawberries are frozen so you get the slushie effect. Other frozen fruit can be substituted.
- Fresh Lime Juice: A good squeeze of lime brightens up the flavor and keeps it from becoming too sweet.
- Sparkling Water: Either plain or flavored is fine. Sparkling water is carbonated and makes the drink fizzy. It’s what makes this beverage a “spritzer.”
How To Make This Recipe
You’ll need a blender to make your slushie. Simply add the watermelon, frozen berries, and lime juice to the blender.
Give it all a whirl until the mixture is nice and smooth. Pour it into a glass, either over ice or just as it is. Top it with sparkling water.
Garnish your slushie spritzer with a slice of lime and a fresh strawberry. Add a couple of festive straws and you’re on your way to cool summertime bliss.
Make it your own
There are lots of ways to vary this drink:
- Make a double or triple batch. Why not, you already have the blender out!
- Add ice when blending for a slushier drink.
- Use frozen blueberries, peaches, mango or another fruit of your choice instead of the strawberries. Substitute a different fruit for the watermelon.
- Add a flavored sparkling water drink, like LaCroix or Bubly. There are lots of options that are really popular right now.
- Instead of lime juice, add a squirt of lemon juice. Garnish with a fancy little lemon twist. Or try watermelon lemonade with mint (cocktail option included).
- Like it sweeter? Add simple syrup, agave, or sugar. Or use 7-up or a different lemon-lime soda instead of the sparkling water.
Cool off with more summer drinks
- Raspberry Rosé Spritzer
- Green Smoothie
- Strawberry Milkshake with Basil
- Blueberry Mint Ice Tea
- Tropical Smoothie
- Red Wine and Cherry Spritzer
- Sparkling Pink Lemonade (with cocktail option!)
