Strawberry Margarita Punch

Classic margarita flavors. With fresh lime juice and orange liqueur, such as Triple Sec or Cointreau, and of course, tequila, this punch includes everything you love about margaritas and more.

Made with strawberry soda (so easy!). You won’t need to hull a thousand strawberries to make this cocktail, because fizzy strawberry soda provides all the strawberry flavor you need. Because the recipe is made with soda, we call this cocktail a “punch” rather than a regular margarita. The soda acts both as the sweetener (traditionally simply syrup or agave) as well as the flavor (usually puréed strawberries) in this recipe.

Perfect for summer parties! With the classic flavors of a strawberry margarita, this sparkling punch is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit. It’s so easy to make you’ll find yourself turning to this recipe often for summer parties. Each batch makes six cocktails but you can easily double it for a crowd.

Friendly Warning

This strawberry margarita punch is so fruity and delicious you may overlook the fact that it’s an alcoholic beverage. Please always drink responsibly!

Ingredient Notes

  • Tequila: I use plata tequila but silver or white tequila is fine, too. For mixed drinks, avoid tequila aged in oak. If you’re wondering how many margaritas you can get from 1 bottle of tequila, it depends how strong you make them. If you add 1.5 oz. to each drink (like this recipe), you’ll get 16 margaritas per 750 ml bottle of tequila.
  • Lime Juice: Lime juice keeps things bright and tart. Freshly squeezed is always best!
  • Orange Liqueur: Orange liqueur can be triple sec, curaçao, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier.
  • Strawberry Soda: The soda adds sweetness, strawberry flavor, and carbonation (fizziness) to the punch. Some popular brands of strawberry soda are Fanta, Crush, or Sunkist but there are lots more. Choose your favorite brand of soda.
  • For the rim: Dip the rims of the glasses into simple syrup and either coarse salt or sugar. No simple syrup? Just dip the rim in lime juice or soda.
  • Rim garnishes: Along with a wedge of lime, a strawberry garnish is so festive and summery, and looks so beautiful on a sugar frosted rim! We’ve been a little obsessed with strawberries lately, strawberry shortcake, strawberry trifle, strawberry muffins, we can’t get enough! This homemade strawberry milkshake is pretty amazing, too!
  • Ice: Make sure you have lots of fresh ice!

Recipe Variations

  • Use a different soda. Make the punch with Sprite or another flavor of fruit soda for different flavored margaritas. If you’re really not a fan of strawberries, try my cranberry margarita recipe (it’s perfect for winter holidays, too).
  • Plain rim. Omit the dipped rim, if desired.
  • Make a strawberry daiquiri. The two cocktails are quite similar; a daiquiri is made with rum and a margarita with tequila. Both can be served on the rocks, as a blended cocktail, or as a punch.

Make-Ahead Ideas

To make ahead: Combine the tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur in a pitcher, and chill. Add ice and strawberry soda just before serving.

Storage Tips

Once the ice and soda has been added, you really need to serve the punch right away. Store leftovers in the fridge, but keep in mind, the soda will lose its fizz and the ice will water down any leftovers.
