Today’s “a day in the life”  is Audra of The Baker Chick. Audra is a sweetheart and so talented.

I’m currently obsessed with her Creme Bruleé Cupcakes. So genius and they look beyond tasty.

Tell me about yourself and how you started food blogging.IMG_1798-2 web ready

After 5 years of living in New York City, working as an actor (among other things,) I was feeling restless during the slow winter season, and wishing for another creative outlet to keep my mind off of “the biz.” I’ve always loved baking, and during a family get together, I mentioned that maybe I should start a blog. Everyone seemed to think it was a great idea, and not really knowing much about it, I just went for it. Best decision ever.

Take me through your day.

*My days vary so much. I never have a set schedule or routine, but this is an example of what any given day might be.

8:00 Wake up. (sometimes earlier/later- depends on the night before) Make my way to the couch, make sure my post is up (if I have one that day,) browse my Google reader and try to do some sharing/commenting .(I’m horrible at social media- but really trying to get better!)

8:45 Andy gets up- makes us coffee- tries to get me to eat breakfast. (normally I don’t) We watch news and drink coffee together. *Usually I’m still clicking on my laptop so I have to reheat my coffee at least once.

10:00- Andy leaves for work, and my day goes one of two ways from here until about 3 PM: Either I shower, get ready and take the subway into midtown for an audition or two, walking around, doing errands around the city afterwards OR I start a baking project for the day. If I feel extra motivated- I’ll bake something, photograph it, clean the apartment and make something easy for dinner that can be re-heated at 9/10 pm when we get home.

3:00 M-F I work for a family on the Upper East Side doing some after school tutoring/homework help. usually I’m there from 3/4PM until about 8:30. Normally I eat dinner there, sometimes I don’t and wait for when I get home with Andy.

8:30/9:00- head home on the subway- takes about 40 minutes.

9:30 or so- home, (usually Andy is home by now too,) and we either have dinner together or he eats while I just hang with him checking emails, more blog commenting, and writing the next day’s post.

10:00 + Our normal night routine involves watching whatever we have DVRed while I’m editing photos, sometimes while we share a glass of wine and chat about our days.

Bedtime- usually between 12-1 AM.

What is your one must-have kitchen tool or gadget?

When we got married this past August I FINALLY got a KitchenAid stand mixer. I now don’t know how I ever lived without it!

What is the most important part of your day?

Most important part of day- Morning time- usually when I’m actually able to make some magic happen in the kitchen, often times alone so I can clean and play girly music.

What is your favorite part of your day? Why?

I like the freshness of a new day, sipping coffee with Andy while we watch news and just kind of veg in a sleepy/silent way. Usually I’m feeling pretty excited about whatever I have planned for the day and am feeling cheery and optimistic. (Morning person.)

If you could choose one room in your house to spend the WHOLE day in, which room would it be? Why?

Ask me this one again in 5-10 years when we’ve moved out of our small apartment and into a house somewhere? :) Seriously though- I get pretty stir crazy when I’m in the apartment too long. I love that my busy lifestyle forces me out of the house every day! I sure do love being in kitchen though- even though I don’t have a dishwasher :)

What is your favorite day of the week? Why?

Saturday for sure. Usually no auditions, neither of us has anywhere to go, and it’s our chance to explore the city, try to restaurants, or just go to a movie or hang out with friends- the best!

What recipe on your blog are you most proud of?

Really proud of my Salted Caramel Sticky Buns. They were so delicious and also a guest post on A Cup of Jo which I was so honored and excited for. Also- I recently tackled croissants which I was SO proud of myself for. :)

What recipe on your blog do your readers seem to love most?

Soft Frosted Pumpkin Spice Cookies– which is so funny to me as I whipped those up as a last minute thing and didn’t even put as much effort into the photos as I normally do. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter!

 What have you found to be the most challenging part of blogging?

Keeping up with Social Media/Networking. I’ve always been awful at it (in my acting career too.) I always feel like I haven’t commented enough, or that I don’t read enough blogs. I have a hard time knowing how best to spend my free time!

Who would you like to see featured here in the future?

Joanne-http://www.joanne-eatswellwithothers.com/

Georgia: http://www.thecomfortofcooking.com/

Is there anything else you would like to tell the world about yourself?

Before I got into food blogs, I was obsessed with wedding blogs (namely Style Me Pretty.) One of my proudest moments was when my wedding got featured in January. In addition to baking, I’m obsessed with DIY/crafts and I made almost everything for my wedding. If felt so good to get to share all that work with their readers!

~~~~~~~~
Thanks Audra! Love that you were featured on Style Me Pretty–I too read that blog long before I ever started thinking about food blogging.
You can find more of Audra on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
