Hey all! Do you know Julieeeeeeee? She’s the sweetest. She writes the amazing blog Table for Two, a cozy place to find delicious food, beautiful photographs and fun stories from Julie’s busy life. Seriously! She has a full-time job, recently got engaged and is in the middle of a move! You should see her new place, it is so gorgeous.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tell me about yourself and how you started food blogging.
I’m Julie and I’m the author behind the growing food blog, Table for Two! Don’t let the name deceive you, I don’t make recipes that serve 2! We just have a table of two at home because it’s me and the fiancé! Anyway, I blog numerous original and adapted recipes and I LOVE to share my passion through my blog. I started food blogging because I’d make all these dishes and everyone would ask me where they could grab the recipe. I figured blogging it for everyone was easier than writing it individually for everyone. Now everyone can find me at www.tablefortwoblog.com!
Take me through your day.
On work days (M-F)
-
-
- 5:45am: Wake up, get ready for work
- 6:25am: Out the door
- 6:40am: On the road to work (I carpool so we all meet at this time)
- 7am: At my desk at work
- 7:15am: Getting coffee!!!
- 7:20am-420pm: Work, work, work
- 4:20pm: Heading home!
- 5:15pm: Home!
- 5:30pm: Starting dinner
- 6:30pm: Dinner
- 7pm-930pm: Blogging/watching tv/editing photos/hanging out with friends – it’s either one or the other or sometimes multi-tasking!
- 9:30pm: Shower, get ready for bed (I know, I’m a grandma)
- 10:30pm: In bed and dreaming of food :)
-
Weekends consist of waking up at 830am and either running errands throughout the day or cooking/baking/photographing all day long (it’s really only the days that I get to cook/bake/photograph all my food for the blog) and hanging out with friends & family.
What is your one must-have kitchen tool or gadget?
My KitchenAid mixer! Can’t live without it!!
What is your favorite part of your day? Why?
The part of the day that I get to cook or bake because it relaxes me and de-stresses me. All the troubles and stress goes away and I can just focus on one of my passions and I don’t have to think about other stuff that may be bothering me!
If you could choose one room in your house to spend the WHOLE day in, which room would it be? Why?
My kitchen, of course!! It’s where imagination and creativity flow and it’s where I can be messy and have fun with what I love to do! (note from Rachel: This picture is from Julie’s realtor before she moved in–so it is her kitchen but not her stuff! And yes, I am waaaay jealous of this kitchen, aren’t you?)
If you could choose one room in your house to remodel (on an unlimited budget!) which room would it be and why?
Probably the master bedroom. I want more closet space and I want an interior designer to come in and spruce it up. It’s so barren right now (but that’s cause we just moved in and we don’t have furniture to fill it up) and needs better color and more eye-catching things!
If you had to choose one place to travel to every year over and over, where would it be? Why? Have you been there before?
Taiwan. It’s where all my relatives are and I only get to see them every 2-3 years (sometimes even longer than that). I’ve been there numerous times, but it’s never enough. I wish I could see them every year. I miss out on so much of family life. Some of my cousin’s kids don’t even know who I am!!
If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go and how long would you stay?
Definitely Taiwan. Plane tix are way expensive ($1800!!) so free plane tix would be awesome! I’d stay for a month :)
What recipe on your blog do your readers seem to love most?
Crockpot sesame chicken – it went viral!
What have you learned since you began blogging?
A lot. Be yourself, be honest, be creative, and don’t let anyone or anything hinder you and your creativity. Make what you love, cook what you love, blog what you love, eat what you love. I also learned to be clearer in my directions. You think you’ll be clear but you’ll get all these comments asking for more clarification. For example: chicken breasts, someone will likely ask “can I use boneless skinless?” or “can I use thighs instead?” I’ve now learned to write in my ingredients “boneless, skinless chicken breasts, you may use boneless, skinless chicken thighs if you prefer.”
What have you found to be the most challenging part of blogging?
The copyright issues such as the people who rip off your content without linking back or asking.
Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in cooking or food blogging?
Be you! People don’t want to read about what you want to be, they want to read about whom you are and your personality. Be honest, gain trust in your audience. Don’t worry about what others think and don’t let mean comments bring you down!
Julie – I am in love with this post! And your crockpot sesame chicken too, of course. Something really stuck with me. When you explained what you have learned throughout your blog life: “Be yourself, be honest, be creative, and don’t let anyone or anything hinder you and your creativity.” I couldn’t agree more. I was very nervous to put myself out there, afraid some people would think my blog is silly or that I was strange for posting all over the internet. Now, I am confident that I made the right decision and enjoy showing my personality more and more with each new post. :)
Rachel, thank you for featuring Julie! I love your blog. :)
