My husband’s side of the family has a family reunion every year. I think it’s a really great tradition – something that the whole family gathers together for. We might see a few people here and there at birthday parties and such, but it’s so easy to quickly lose touch with the extended family. Usually it’s far from intentional, it’s just that people get busy and getting together with that extended group of family may get left off the to-do list. Especially if you don’t live super close to each other. The family reunion is a great chance for everyone to reconnect.

And I’ll be honest with you, as a busy mom married to a guy who has extremely demanding career, sometimes this reunion sneaks up and I grumble about it a bit (I’m just being real!). I have to get the kids ready, sunscreened, extra clothes and diapers packed, snacks packed, etc. I have to put them in the car for an hour or more and keep them entertained. I have to think of a dish to pass that doesn’t need refrigeration or an oven. We’ll likely end up skipping the kids’ naps. We’ll probably come home with some bug bites. BUT once we get there, we always have a great time (especially the kids!) enjoying the outdoors, the food, and of course — the company. It’s important for kids to know where they come from and know the strength of their family. If you don’t already host a family reunion, I’d urge you to consider starting this tradition with your family.

I’m excited to be teaming up with Walkers Shortbread to bring you this sweet little parfait but also to give you the chance to win lots of great prizes – including Walkers “sponsoring” your next family reunion (they’ll give you a thousand bucks to plan the perfect reunion!). I’ll tell you more about that in a minute, but let’s talk fruit salad parfaits for a second.

Who doesn’t love a good parfait? Layers of flavorful juicy fruit, creamy yogurt and then a great crunchy component. That crunchy component is oftentimes granola, but when Walkers Shortbread asked me to team up with them, I immediately started dreaming up this cookie crumble topping for a summertime parfait. And may I just say – this parfait would be great for a reunion! You can easily prep all the components separately and then assemble the parfaits right before serving. You could even make it into a parfait bar where guests could make their own parfait just the way they like it. But if you do that, be prepared to make more cookie crumble because that stuff will go quickly if you let people loose on it!

Verdict: So good! I may never go back to granola on my parfaits.

Husband’s take: He loved (LOVED) these. The kids did too – they thought they were getting some over-the-top “special treat,” but in reality, there’s a lot of nutritional benefits to these fun parfaits.

Changes I would make: None are necessary, but I’m sure I’ll be making these fruit salad parfaits with leftover fruit salad whenever I have it. Pretty much any fruit would taste great in these.

Difficulty: SO easy.
