I just cannot get over how much I love the name of her blog. So fun and creative!  The girl behind the blog is as sweet and nice as can be.

Today Mackenzie is letting us get a peek into her every day life. If you haven’t visited her blog, make sure you do it!

Tell me about yourself and how you started food blogging.

My name is Mackenzie – or Susie, it all depends on who you talk to. I am a twenty something newlywed who lives in Minneapolis. I started a food blog because it is the easiest way to share recipes, and archive what I’m cooking, eating and doing!

Take me through your day.

      • 5:15 AM: Wake up, get ready for work
      • 6:00 AM: Feed the dog and let her out
      • 6:30 AM: Get to work – make phone calls, catch up with clients, keep my boss happy, return e-mails, etc.
      • 2:30 PM: Leave work
      • 3:00 PM: Work out
      • 4:00PM: Depending on the weather – take the dog for a walk – while I’m walking the dog I usually brainstorm dinner
      • 4:30 PM: Make sure the dinner I have chosen to make is something my husband is actually interested in eating! Then get cleaned up so I can cook
      • 5:00 PM: Feed the dog
      • 5:30 PM: Cook dinner, plate dinner, while it’s hot and my husband anxiously awaits getting to eat I work on taking the perfect picture for the blog
      • 6:30 PM: Clean up the kitchen, upload photos, tweak any I don’t like
      • 7:00 PM: Meet friends for drinks, watch TV, have a glass of wine, take the dog to the park, etc. whatever is on the agenda for the night
      • 9:00 PM: Let out the dog one last time
      • 9:30 PM: Head hits the pillow and I’m immediately asleep!

*This list makes me feel like I lead a very boring life – skydiving anyone!?

What is your one must-have kitchen tool or gadget?

Cutting boards – I tend to use more than one no matter how simple the dish is. A really sharp knife is also necessary!

What is your favorite part of your day? Why?

Pulling into the driveway of our home after work – my whole body instantly relaxes. I know I’m going to walk in and find a happy dog waiting for me.

What is your LEAST favorite part of the day? Why?

Dishes. I think that dishes and vacuuming are the worst chores in the world. Thankfully I have a husband that doesn’t mind either!

If you could choose one room in your house to remodel (on an unlimited budget!) which room would it be and why?

I love that all the food bloggers say “my kitchen” and they show a picture of a kitchen WAY better than mine! So, I’ll say it too – our kitchen, Ugh. We are remodeling it soon, so you are getting the first sneak peek at the before shot! Yep, I make all that good food on just that ONE countertop!

 

If you had to choose one place to travel to every year over and over, where would it be? Why? Have you been there before?

Temecula, California – no contest. (I got married at Danza Del Sol Winery there in March, so it’s an easy choice! If you haven’t been there, you really should visit!)

If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go and how long would you stay?

Probably somewhere along the lines of Paris, Italy or New York City and I would want to be there at least a month. So much to do and see in cities that never sleep!

What is your favorite quote or verse?

“Do what you feel in your heart to be right, you’ll be criticized anyway” – Eleanor Roosevelt (Because it’s SO true!!)

What is your favorite cookbook?

“Cookies” by none other than Martha Stewart. I give her a hard time every chance I get, because her recipes require a bit more effort and tend to be on the “putsy” side. However, she really does make good cookies!

What recipe on your blog are you most proud of?

Tangerine beef over linguine – it’s seriously so good.

What recipe on your blog do your readers seem to love most?

MINI pineapple upside down cakes – they are so fun, and everyone loves things in mini form, because you can eat two or three and mentally tell yourself it wasn’t that many calories.

What have you learned since you began blogging?

Sometimes tuna fish salad on ritz crackers really is what’s for dinner. (In other words, your plan sometimes fails and the lavish dinner you attempted to make – well, sucks.)

What have you found to be the most challenging part of blogging?

Consistently coming up with ideas is difficult, but that is also part of what keeps things interesting.

Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in cooking or food blogging?

If you are looking for great props, hit up HomeGoods. If you want a photography tip go to Target and buy a .99 cent white foam board – use it to reflect natural light in your pictures – it will take you far! Don’t stress over blogging, make it a hobby not a chore!

Is there anything else you want to tell the world?

I fell into this food blog thing, but I have grown to absolutely love it. I love getting all the e-mails and comments from readers – you are the reasons we all do this!
