I haven’t been feeling well, and today (well, as I’m writing this–on Tuesday) my 9.5 month old forgot how to nap. Seriously. No. Naps. Except when I was cooking dinner, but that is a recipe you’ll see Monday. I saw this survey awhile back on Brittany’s blog, A Healthy Slice of Life and thought it was cute and fun. And it is centered around food, which is always a good thing.
A is for Apple: What is your favorite variety?
Macintosh. But I have a new found love for Honeycrisp. They are so crispy and sweet. Sometimes Macs are a little too soft for me.
B is for Bread: Regardless of nutrition, what is your favorite type?
Garlic bread! Or cinnamon raisin bread. Or beer bread. I love bread!
C is for Cereal: What is your favorite kind currently?
I’m not too much of a cereal eater. For breakfast, it is usually eggs or oatmeal. I’ve always loved Basic 4 though. If we throw nutrition out the window, it would probably be Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
D is for Donuts: What kind do you fancy?
Glazed! Simple and delicious.
E is for Eggs: How do you like yours prepared?
Changes every day! I love over easy and scrambled. Omelettes are always a winner as well, with tons of veggies. And bacon.
F is for Fat-Free: What is your favorite fat-free product?
This is a tough one! I’d have to say fruit, if I’m being good, or Twizzlers if I’m not being good. Love me some pear Jelly Bellies too!
G is for Groceries: Where do you purchase yours?
I jump all over the place. Lately, Kroger. But I love Nino Salvaggios, a local place.
H is for Hot Beverages: What is your favorite hot drink?
COFFEE. It’s a very integral part of my morning routine. Hot, strong, and black.
I is for Ice Cream: Pick your favorite flavor and add a fun topping.
This is a tough one. I love ice cream! I’d have to say cookie dough ice cream with hot fudge. But I like vanilla frozen yogurt with crushed up Fruit Loops too–try it some time! Lately I’ve been obsessed with crushed pretzels on my ice cream. I love the salty/sweet combination.
J is for Jams or Jellies: Do you eat them? If so, what kind and flavor?
I eat them sometimes! My favorite is my mom’s strawberry freezer jelly. I especially like it when she brings me a jar (or two!) when they come to visit. *hint hint*
K is for Kashi: Name your favorite Kashi product?
Is this a Kashi sponsered survey? Not that I’m aware of! I don’t really eat a lot of their products. I like KitKats though. That starts with K. And Kiwis. And Kabobs.
L is for Lunch: What was yours today?
Hubby ran out and got us burritos from Chipotle. Did I mention today has been a little rough? It is amazing that I managed to throw together dinner. Anyways, got the veggie burrito from Chipotle. Grilled peppers and onions, black beans, rice, gauc, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Totally healthy (not).
M is for microwave: What is your favorite microwave meal/snack?
Hmmm…I’m with Brittany on this one, it would be popcorn but I use an air popper. The thing I use the microwave most for is reheating baby food. But that obviously isn’t for me. Wow, I guess I don’t really use the microwave much.
O is for oil: What kind do you like to use?
Almost always extra-virgin olive oil.
Q is for Quaker: How do you like your oats?
I like oatmeal with mixed fruit/berries (any of the following: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries, blueberries…or cherries), ground flax seed, some dark brown sugar, and toasted pecans or walnuts on the top. And a tiny bit of milk.
R is for roasting: What is your favorite thing to roast?
Vegetables! They become so sweet and delicious.
S is for sandwich: What’s your favorite kind?
I love a lot of different sandwiches, but when push comes to shove, I’d probably choose a BLT. With a fresh, juicy, heirloom tomato. I could eat the things for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
T is for travel: How do you handle eating while traveling?
Travel? What’s that? Haven’t been too many places with the new baby, just to visit family. But what we eat generally depends where we’re going. Jamaican all-inclusive resort? It is obvious how we’ll be handling eating there: Eat. A lot. All the time. Getting engaged in London? Drink lots of tea and try to find a good restaurant or two. Going on a road trip? We’ll be packing a cooler with sandwich materials. Going up north to the lake? Drinking beer on the boat and eating lots of watermelon.
U is for unique: What is one of your weirdest food combos?
This is a tough one! If I’m eating Kraft Mac & Cheese (which doesn’t happen often), I like to eat a PB&J sandwich with it. My hubby makes fun of me. I guess it is kind of a meal for a 5 year old.
V is for vitamins: What kind do you take?
Prenatals. But don’t get any ideas about me being preggers with #2. It’s because I’m still nursing. I hardly ever remember to take them though, I need to work on that.
W is for wasabi: Yay or nay?
Nay. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to spicy things.
X is XRAY: If we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see?
Coffee. Half a kitkat (I’m making brownies with them, and there happened to be an extra). Breakfast was a couple of muffins and a fried egg.
Y is for youth: What food reminds you of your childhood?
This is a tough one! My mom is such a great cook that I have a lot of fond food memories. I’d say canned homemade applesauce always reminds me of growing up: making it, canning it, and eating it. My mom’s cooking has only gotten better over the years, just like her home decor has. The days of that wallpaper are long gone.
Z is for zucchini: How do you prepare it?
We actually had some last night sauteed with summer squash, onions, salt and pepper and dried basil. My favorite way to eat it is probably grilled. Or in cake, does that count?
